"gate, gate, paragate; parasamgate; boddhi svaha"Earlier in the Summer, The Basement Pub announced that they’d be hosting a Pabst Blue Ribbon-themed art contest. Naturally, I needed to enter (and win) the competition. Above is my submission: Ink + acrylic on cutout layers of dura-lar, with the classic Zardoz head modeled after my good friend, Basement regular and PBR enthusiast THORN.
Unfortunately, I neglected to ask a lot of follow-up questions after the initial announcement. So when the day came to turn it in, we were surprised to learn that PBR had pulled their backing and the whole contest had been canceled weeks before.
Still, I’m pleased with how the picture turned out. I submitted it at the PBR Art website but, as of 01/23/13, it has not yet been added to their gallery. Maybe because it has imagery from a film? OR maybe they didn’t care for the title:
“GO FORTH AND SWILL!”
Mythological Circus, Polish Theater Poster; Designer: Ryszard Kaja
$28.53 seems a small price to pay for what could easily be named The Most Amazing Theatre Poster In The World. (via I <3Tentacles)
The undersea ‘Realm of Glass’ set from The Thief of Bagdad (1924, dir. Raoul Walsh) Art direction by William Cameron Menzies.
To prepare the set for the underwater world, a family of artisans spent three months hand-blowing the required glass pieces.
